Dermaplaning
Before & After Gallery
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning involves removing dead and damaged skin cells along with fine, vellus hair (often described as “baby” hair) from the upper layer of the facial epidermis. The procedure is performed by a professional dermal therapist, using a surgical grade, exfoliating blade.
What can it help with?
Dermaplaning has the potential to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. After dermaplaning, your fresh skin has been shown to be more receptive to serums and moisturisers. Dermaplaning has also been shown to assist in helping to accelerate the renewal of healthy skin cell production – the foundation of healthy, glowing skin.
What happens during a dermaplaning session?
After examining your skin and discussing any concerns you have, as well as your medical history relevant to your skin, Advanced Aesthetic’s dermal therapist will use a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle to slowly remove debris and smooth out your skin’s surface.
How long does the treatment take?
Including a skin assessment, the procedure and follow-up advice, the treatment takes around 45 minutes to one hour.
Is it safe?
Dermaplaning has typically little risk of side effects when performed by a professional skin dermal therapist in a clinical setting. However every treatment involves some risk and these will be discussed with you at your consultation.
Is there downtime?
No, but some people may find their skin is a little pink for two or three days after the procedure. In rare cases, your skin may also break out a bit if it has been very congested. For most people, it typically takes a couple of days to see the full result of the dermaplaning treatment.
How long do results last?
Results will vary from person to person. Your therapist will discuss the results you can possibly expect – unique to you and your skin – at your consultation.
Do I need to use any special products afterwards, or take any precautions?
Aftercare may differ for each client. Typically clients are ask to not exfoliate for a few days or apply Vitamin A. You also need to be careful about sun exposure. On fresh skin, harsh UV rays can cause pigmentation or blotches. Wearing a chemical-free, SPF50+ sunblock (we recommend the amazing SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF30+ or SPF50+). Sunblock is essential to helping your skin look and feel its best. Don’t go out in the day without wearing some, especially in the Australian summer, although be aware that UV can be extreme all year round so it’s good to apply a sunblock under your moisturiser.
Will the fine hairs on my face grow back thicker?
The hair will grow back as it was prior to treatment.
