Arm Surgery
Over time, our may skin lose elasticity and may sag due to factors such as weight loss, especially in extreme cases where a substantial amount of weight has been lost.
One of the areas that may experience skin sagging is the upper arms, where loose skin can develop.
Skin tightening procedures, also known as a brachiaplasty are designed to tighten the skin in these areas.
Dr Dilip Gahankari is an experienced reconstructive and cosmetic surgeon, with more than 21 years of experience performing this procedure.

Is this procedure for me?
The skin tightening procedure is designed to tighten loose skin, and helps provide a more taut, contoured appearance.
An upper arm lift, or brachiaplasty, removes loose skin and reshapes the underneath of the upper arm.
The surgery is generally performed under general anesthetic and is undertaken as a day surgery in one of our partnering Gold Coast hospitals.
The standard brachiaplasty incision extends from the underarm to the elbow, however the full length incision is not always necessary.
During a skin tightening procedure, you may also require liposuction if you have excess fatty deposits. This decision will be made between you and Dr Gahankari during your initial consultation.
Pre and Post-Op Care
After the skin tightening (brachiaplasty) procedure, you will be required to wear a compression bandage for one to two weeks, to ensure an optimal outcome.
You can typically resume regular activities such as light work and driving after two weeks.
It is recommended to avoid overly strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least six weeks.
Dr Gahankari will discuss your surgical options and recovery times during your initial consultation.
What Results Can I Expect?
The effect of a brachiaplasty is immediate after surgery, although the full benefits may take a months to be seen after the swelling has gone down.
You will have a scar that typically heals well, but will always be present and visible.
